One of the prettiest places in the Texas Hill Country, Lost Maples in the fall is a vision of color! Greens! Reds! Oranges! What a place for a family photo shoot! It was a warm evening, warm enough to dip bare toes into the Sabinal River. Though it was near the end of the season and most of the leaves had dropped, there was still color all around!

My first annual Kerrville Halloween Mini Sessions were a wonderful success! Thanks to everyone who came out for the event! I’ve got a trunkful of sports balls heading to the Hill Country Youth Ranch for some fun and games! Look at all the fun characters who came to visit me for a Halloween photo shoot in the park!

This sweet little Raggedy Ann came to the mini sessions when she was just a baby and she came every single year after that. I loved seeing her firecracker personality emerge and seeing what creative costume her mother or grandmother would create (both were fantastic seamstresses)! From baby Raggedy Ann and her little pal Andy to a colorful, rainbow butterfly, her Halloween costumes were always amazing!

It’s almost autumn here in the Hill Country! The weather is cooling down, the leaves are beginning to show the slightest change in color, pumpkins are abundant, and Halloween is right around the corner. It’s the perfect time for fall family portraits! Here are three fun ideas for photos of your family this fall!

Who’s ready for some Halloween portraits? Before I moved to Kerrville, I used to hold these mini sessions every year. They were the highlight of the business year for both me and my wonderful clients! I’m excited to begin this fun tradition here in Kerrville!

Would you like to know the number one reason why I LOVE photographing newborns in their own home? This is your space, your home, where you spend most of your time, where your children will spend their childhood, where your family began and where it grew. Home is a beloved place and it’s a beautiful thing taking a family’s portraits in the place where they are so comfortable, so at peace, so happy, a place with innumerable memories!

It was 1993 when a young family decided to plant a few backyard apple trees. Five years the children were told, five years until the trees produce fruit. A quick count of the fingers gave the realization that the children would be teenagers before there were any apples to pick and eat. Such disappointment! But life never stops moving and before the children realized how many years had passed, the trees blossomed and there was fruit! Did you know teenagers are not too old to climb trees if there are sweet apples at the top?

Big sister, big brother, and the overexcited dog came racing to the door when I arrived, barking (the dog) and chattering (the kids) loudly and excitedly about their cute new sister! That’s the thing about third born blessings. All the sweetness is still there, but there’s very little calm and peace. But there is great joy!

“Mud. He’s into mud.”

“Great! I love that idea for a photo shoot! Do you have a spot in your yard we could turn into a mud pit?”

And her answer showed just what a fun mom she is! “We’ve already got one.”
