A Creative Boy’s Photo Shoot in Kerrville TX
One of the first things I will ask you when you book a Hill Country childhood portrait session is: what is your child passionate about right now? What occupies the majority of their free play? What do they often talk about or ask to do? What always brings them joy? That’s what we want to photograph, to memorialize who they are in their childhood right now.
When I asked these question of the mother of Mr. Bright Eyes here, her answer immediately excited and inspired me!
“Mud. He’s into mud.”
“Great! I love that idea for a photo shoot! Do you have a spot in your yard we could turn into a mud pit?”
And her answer showed just what a fun mom she is! “We’ve already got one.”
Fan-freaking-tastic!
While boys are usually not the biggest fans of photo shoots, the promise of a dollar to smile and behave like a model for a few handsome (and clean) portraits followed by permission to get as mucky as he wanted brought about a most cooperative little boy.
First he showed me his tree climbing skills.
Then, being a little boy, naturally he showed me the cut on his toe.
Next he showed me how high he could climb up his rope swing and how crazy he could get on the swing set.
Then we began to set up the mud pit. First add some water.
With the mud pit prepared, what followed next was a chaotic and wonderful mess in which his mother ended up sopping wet, I ended up with mud all over my clothes, hair and face, he was simply head-to-toes filth, and my camera almost didn’t survive the experience! Was it worth it? Oh, yes!
