It’s the beginning of another year! After a few very difficult years, 2023 was a great year for me! I took several wonderful trips, spent a lot of time with family, built relationships with some amazing people, and gained three nephews! I didn’t keep up on blogging recent photo sessions (I’m not sure if I actually blogged any 2023 sessions last year), but I did blog a good few sessions from previous years, so I’m going to look back on my favorite photos blogged during 2023! Enjoy these sweet faces from around Austin, Bee Cave, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and beyond!
I love this playful photo of a sweet one-year-old toddler during his at home lifestyle session in the city ! His mother was outside the window making faces at him so we could capture this fun moment!
Any photo involving cats will always top my list, especially when you throw a cute, barefooted preschooler in there! I had such a fun time doing this photo series with an animal loving four-year-old and the month-old litter of siamese kittens at her Fredericksburg, TX ranch home.
Side note: that super cute orange, tiger dress was purchased at Natural Baby in downtown Fredericksburg. They have an adorable selection of organic and natural fiber outfits that look great in family photographs!
What a sweetheart this baby is, with her round cheeks and bright blue eyes! This beautiful newborn is lying on a crib sheet handmade by her grandmother. Including those personal elements in photo sessions is so precious and something I love to do. That sheet may or may not survive the baby and toddler years (though hopefully it will), but this little girl will grow up and have these sweet photographs to look back on! And she can see the beautiful and restful sleeping space her mother and grandmother lovingly created for her.
This one-year-old toddler was scheduled for his very first haircut during his lifestyle photo session this day. Naturally, a photo of his sweet baby curls was a must have photo to get!
This joyful, eight-month-old little guy loved all the attention he received while having his portraits taken! He smiled and laughed for nearly every photograph! His mother chose such a classic outfit for her baby boy to wear for his portraits: OshKosh B’Gosh overalls and a flat cap! Would you like to know why this particular photo is one of my favorites? The wrist rolls! He’s so perfectly round and rolly!
In this lifestyle toddler session at home, we decided to include snack time in his portrait series. His mama’s helping hand as he was learning how to use a fork was such a sweet moment!
This precious mohawked baby is actually my niece. And no, we did not do her hair like that; that was it’s natural growth, LOL! For this portrait series, I wanted some photographs of her on our family heirloom quilt, hand sewn with much love by one of her great aunties in England. From the way the window light highlights her funny mohawk, to her little fingers exploring the textures of the fabric and stitch work, to the colorful patches of the quilt, this photo is definitely a favorite!
I photographed this Fredericksburg children’s portrait series of two sweet sisters as a surprise gift for their mama. The sweet smiles, the vibrant colors of their surroundings, and that wonderful sisterly connection, this is one of my favorite photographs! The girls are also wearing outfits from Natural Baby in this photo. Seriously, if you want beautiful clothing in natural and organic fibers for your children’s photos, this is the place to shop!
His sweet, shy smile, vibrant eyes, the soft colors, and his mama’s beautiful smile in the background! This Dripping Springs family lifestyle photo session was so much fun and full of precious moments, from getting ready for the day to feeding their backyard chickens, from some rough and tumble outdoor play to quiet family moments! This image is one of my favorites from the day!
Oh, look! I actually did blog a photo from 2023! This is my favorite photo from the entire year, both taken and blogged! This is my littlest nephew, named for his grandfather (my father) who was killed two years ago. He’s swaddled in my father’s shirt, wearing my father’s reading glasses, and laying on a book from my father’s private library. To others, this may look like a typical posed newborn portrait, perhaps a bit on the silly side, but to me, it feels like my nephew is wrapped in his grandfather’s love as he sleeps.
As an Austin photographer, it’s an incredibly special thing being able to capture these beautiful memories for families. I would love to be the one to photograph your 2024 moments!
