My 365 Project as a Kerrville Photographer- Week 1

When I first moved to Kerrville two years ago, I put away my camera for about 18 months. After twelve years of having a children’s portrait business, I’d never not touched my camera for more than a few days at a time, so that break was refreshing. However, when I began to pick up my camera again mid-last year, I found my skills had become a little rusty.

With the new year comes a lot of talk about 365 projects in photographer circles. This is a project to motivate you to pick up your camera daily. Everyone has different reasons for doing a 365 Project, from wanting to capture their family life daily, to challenging themselves with new genres or techniques, to simply wanting the daily practice for improvement.

Though I have never done a 365 project before (with no children at home and a fairly mundane life, what am I going to photograph every day?), I thought it might benefit me to begin one now. My goals are to refine my skills where they have become rusty and to challenge myself to find moments worthy of photographing in my still mundane life.

Honestly, I don’t know if I will stay committed for a full 365 days or if I will even make it 30 days, but as long as I accomplish those two goals, I’m content with that. However, to help hold myself accountable, I will be doing a weekly blog post on my 365 Project. Not every photo is going to be phenomenal as I work through the challenge and you will probably see a lot of photos of my cats, but hey, that’s my life and those are photos I will enjoy.

So, here are the first seven photos of my 2023 365 Project!

Day 2: Wycombe, my funny Siamese, basking in the evening sun.

Day 3: Salto, who thinks he owns my desk chair. He jumps up there the second I stand up and has a big fuss when I try to sit back down.

Day 5: Harold, the neighbor cat who comes tearing across the street to say hi to me when I pull in each evening. He knows I’m always good for some pets and snuggles.
