A Family Photo Shoot at Home in Austin, TX
As an Austin photographer, my favorite way to photograph families is by coming into the home and simply documenting the family’s routine and relationships, with minimal posing. When children are in a familiar place of comfort and moments are allowed to happen naturally, the truest expressions come out!
A year previous, I had gone to this family’s home to photograph their new little guy’s newborn portraits, and how sweet those were! This little fellow hadn’t seen me since our last photo shoot when he was four weeks old, so a few minutes were needed to warm up to my presence. A little pacifier time helped with the warm up, then out it came as we began chatting and playing. He had a great morning showing me his favorite places and things in his home and I took many sweet photographs along the way!
After a while, it was time to go outside and take some photos on the property. This family’s cozy home sits on a high hill overlooking the lake and what a lovely spot it is! First things first though. Shoes! A tiny pair of Converse for a tiny, yawning little boy.
Once outdoors, we went to to feed the chickens first. Some left over spring greens were devoured by those hungry ladies!
Those sweet curls! The little guy had his first haircut later in the day, so a photograph of his baby curls was a must!
After we ran out of food for the chickens, it was time to climb the embankment above the chicken coop, with Mom waiting down below to give a hand or a catch, if needed.
For a small fellow working on his climbing skills, one hillside was not enough. Next up, the driveway!
For his newborn photography session, we had done a sweet series of photos of this little family playing music together on the bed. A year later, for his one year photographs, we wanted to recreate that family portrait!
Another recreation from his newborn portraits had to be done as well! This fun set up was a favorite! Sitting on a green blanket that had been hand knitted by a family member for his birth, on the amplifier with Dad’s electric guitar, and the mood being set by David Garibaldi’s painting!
Disclaimer: safety precautions were taken in the making of these portraits and the child was not in danger at any point.

After the newborn photo recreations, our home photography session began to wind down as a small someone was getting sleepy. Cozy blankets and the pacifier came back out while the little guy settled down for a rest. What a sweet fellow!
It was such fun visiting with this family again, photographing their daily life, and seeing how much their beautiful boy had grown and changed!
